LAURA Davis tells a story of the last time she stayed in Melbourne for the comedy festival and her gradual descent into depression, self-doubt and loneliness. Sounds awful right? Well it’s not.
Have you ever wondered what kind of soup you are most similar to? Have you turned a bath into a giant tub of tea? Have you ever slapped squares of processed cheese to your body in the shower? Well Davis has. It’s her fascinating ability to turn depressing situations into hilarious ones.
I felt so sorry for Davis in the first part of the show. So much so that I couldn’t fully enjoy her delightful jokes and hilarious anecdotes. Perhaps her target audience is a lot more sadistic than I am. But once she began her quest to conquer her misery, I was entranced. She escapes her lonely apartment and calls on the universe to provide clues and guidance; the universe delivers. It’s amazing where you can find hidden messages and meaning when you look hard enough.
Davis’ quirky charisma transforms this journey into an absurd adventure riddled with surprises, excitement and hilarity. You won’t be disappointed.
