Review – Marcel Lucont’s Gallic Symbol

When Marcel Lucont staggers on stage sneering arrogantly from above his turtle neck sweater, clutching a glass of wine and fresh from a Ménage à trois with two beautiful women, he seems instantly familiar. Which, of course, he is – this comedic cliché of a Frenchman with a superiority complex is, how you say… le tired?
The show started off well enough, and there are some mostly cheap laughs to be had throughout when Marcel jokes about sex – which thankfully is most of the time, as the rest of his material struggles to hit the mark. The character is played by Englishman Alex Dubus, which makes the skit where his French comedian pretends to be an English comedian all the more interesting (his fake English accent is pretty neat). Overall though a pretty safe, unimaginative show, best enjoyed with a healthy dose of French wine.
