Geordie Little’s debut Fringe show ‘Between the Lines’ is a forum for you to sit, listen and watch in awe as this one guy gets layers of sound out of one instrument. Without much knowledge of how to play guitar, you can still appreciate that this guy has something real special. He manages to produce harmonies, rhythm and melody using finger style and lap slap techniques.
Geordie’s tried to make the show a little more than just a listening exercise and asks for audience interaction. Don’t get too worried though. He asks that when listening, you think about a memory or an idea that relates to a song, that you write it on a piece of paper and put it in a box. He doesn’t do anything with it during the show, but he does put it on his blog later. I thought the idea was a little self-indulgent because it doesn’t actually contribute anything immediate. That can be forgiven though, because each audience member goes home with a one-off EP. Each show apparently has a different EP – your own little slice of Geordie – with its own artwork by local artist ‘Out of Line’. This is a bonus.
If you’re a musician or just a regular punter, you’ll find ‘Between the Lines’ enjoyable and impressive. Definitely worth a look.
