1. Describe your show Twitter style, 140 characters or less:
Bart Freebairn’s show is lovely fun, like being hugged by a clever Labrador & winning at excellent. Full of whimsy, big ideas and swears.
2. On first dates, is there a lot of pressure to be funny?
Not at all. Just act how you are feeling. If you feel like joking about then you should. If not just take it easy and be yourself.
3. Why did you become a comedian?
It looked like such a fun, challenging thing to do. Also my father was killed by seriousness and I swore to avenge him with laughter.
4. Is heckling allowed?
Heckling is not really about being allowed or not. People heckle because they feel like it. I don’t mind it. There is a chance to make something really funny out of it. That said too much heckling can be disruptive and make the show less fun for everyone else. It is rarely so good that you think yeah that was great.
5. What would you like named after you – a planet, stadium, street, city, a comedy festival or something else? And why?
I think I would like a type of food or sauce named after me. I love food. All the other options are standard and heaps of people have their names attached to those things. Like Joseph Earth and Barry MCG. Having a great sauce in your name means people get to relate your name to a tasty type of gravy that is used on birthdays and weekends. Just sounds like more fun.
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up I intend to go on to become a helicopter or pure energy. The idea that we become a set thing at any point in our life is false anyway. We are constantly changing. We are cosmic fantastic transformers.
7. Funniest youtube video you’ve ever seen?
I have seen so many videos my memory is shot to pieces and filled with fragments of talking cats and pugs in costumes. I do really love keyboard cat.
8. Why would someone not come to see your show?
People generally don’t come along now because they don’t know about it. It is in a small dirty excellent dive bar in the city. People might not be interested in whimsy and silly big ideas. They might want singing and dancing which I don’t do. They might be tired after a big week and it could be raining. There are so many reasons.
9. You’re stranded on a deserted island… If you could teleport any person to be with you, who would it be? And why?
If I had to power to teleport someone to my island there is a good chance I am a wizard in which case I feel I could probably break the curse that was keeping on the island and maybe go on to defeat the evil demon who put me there. Just saying. If that is not the case I would probably teleport someone who is great at surviving on islands to help me out.
10. Besides your show, what’s your pick at the festival?
There are so many talented wonderful comedians. Nick Cody, Karl Chandler, Tommy Dassalo, Matt Okine, Claire Hooper, Dane Rathbone, Anne Edmonds and Damien Power to name just a few. Just get out there and try something new. You might find an absolute gem.
