Adam’s show at this year’s Melbourne Comedy Festival is a funny reflection on a very quirky father son trip through Europe. We all know that parents can be irritating at times and some parents more than others but Adam Rozenbarchs tells a series of stories that illustrate his own unique father son relationship and had everyone laughing in the process.
Adam played one of the smaller rooms in the Town Hall, what is usually referred to as an intimate setting, and the room was packed. It was clear from the constant laughter that everyone really enjoyed the show.
Observational comedy relies on the absurdity of real life experiences and Adam’s experiences are more absurd than many. He tells a story of what never to do when in the emergency room in a hospital that had the audience hyperventilating with laughter. He told of his father’s adult onset autism, which in reality I am sure was irritating, and yet in the retelling was very funny.
Adam uses some audio from his father being interviewed by comedian Dave O’Neil. There was no trickery, there was no clever editing, there was no need because the man was hilarious. Adam managed to survive a trip to Europe with his dad. In the end Adam’s dad did him the favour of giving him material for a whole show.
