Review – LIMBO
Combining innovative circus with breathtaking sideshow, original beats, sexy dance routines and baffling illusions, this slick production is packing out the Spiegeltent every night. And with damn good reason, too.
This is LIMBO’s second year running as the absolute must-see show of the Fringe, following up Strut and Fret’s runaway success Cantina. Unless you’ve been hibernating, you’ve heard the hype. If not, prepare to get warmed up. Limbo will tease and tickle you, caress you and spank you. These guys are so hot they make porn look like Play School. If these shows keep selling out (they will), Adelaide is going to have a baby boom 9 months from now.
The sexual energy is overwhelming enough, but then you have the skill of these artists – at the absolute peak of their game – which slaps you in the face and leaves you gagging for more. With a driving soundscape by composer Sxip Shirey, and skilled musos Grant Arthur and Mick Stuart, this show is relentless and flawless. Philipp Tigris’ impossible contortions are puppeteered by Shirey’s breezy beatboxing. Sex bomb Hilton Denis tap-dances up his own tune. Aerial artist Evelyne Allard mesmerises with a silky hoop routine. Stand-out performer Danik Abishev is in complete control of every rock-hard muscle in his body, as he balances and jumps effortlessly from pole to pole on one hand, in a stunning jail-break routine. Speaking of poles – male pole dancing. Hello. Mikael Bres draws plenty of collective gasps as he drops from the top of the Spiegeltent, stopping himself centimetres from the floor. Completing the talent list is vintage pin-up Heather Holliday, whose sultry sword swallowing and fire breathing will melt you into a gooey puddle on the floor.
There are not enough superlatives to describe a show this good. Why are you still reading? Go and get a ticket while you still can!
Thank you for all the great compliments! Happy to hear, our show works so well. Just one little thing: unfortunately the contortion was not performed by J. Nosan, this seasons contortionist is Philipp Tigris from Berlin/Germany. (Updated! Thanks for the correction, Philipp, and sorry for the miscredit! -Ed.)
