Review – Hot Dub Time Machine: Big Red Button
When the clock strikes midnight, the Paradiso Spiegeltent at the Garden of Unearthly Delights does not go to sleep with the rest of the city. Paradiso instead transforms into a den of crazed dancing, like something out of a Baz Lurhmann film (although with slightly less debauchery).
Hot Dub Time Machine is a show with a basic philosophy: bring people together through music and dance. In order to do this the insatiable host DJ Tom Loud encourages party goers to dance, drink, sing and share the love, and every person in the Paradiso tent did just that. There were unstoppable dance moves, immeasurable drinking and so much love. Hot Dub uses music and visual extravaganza to bring everyone, young and old, closer to each other.
Beginning the show in the era of rock and roll, the 1960s, it is surprising that everyone (even those young enough to have never used a floppy disk) can sing along to the tunes that are dropping. But they do, and as the show continues through the ages Hot Dub hits many high notes. However, it is not just the music that is impressive about this show: the crowd could not get enough of Tom Loud, who not only kept the decks spinning but displayed the dancing prowess that so many of us desire. Tom is a ball of energy, and the crowd is at his command.
DJ Tom Loud has a unique show that brings together not only the most loved songs of the past 50 years, but that unites so many age groups together in one hell of a party. This event is not to be missed.
