10 Quick Qs – James Pender
1. What, where, when and how much?
James Pender – Let’s Get Started
Garden of UnEarthly Delights
Mon 23 Feb – Sun 1 March
Tix – $20-30
2. Describe your show Twitter style, 140 characters or less:
The show is about my journey from playing Jesus on the Ronnie Johns Half Hour at 23 to defending war criminals in the Hague for the UN at 30. And of course, this requires me to touch on Tinder and the philosophy of dick pics.
3. A quote/moment that stands out from your show?
There’s a story about doing coke off a toilet seat with Mr Big from Sex and the City at the Logies that’s worth hearing.
4. Is heckling allowed?
It’s not really that sort of show I guess. And to be fair, I’ll probably just cry it out on stage if someone feels the need. Nah, if you need to shout something, go for it. Heckling is weird though. A battle between a man with a microphone and a drunk man without one seems destined for carnage.
5. What is your role in the show?
I will be the person on stage standing and talking.
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
I’d love to learn to bake bread… and have a little bakery that serves nice coffee in the hills of some rolling green country village. But I’m a horrible morning person, so people would need to get used to fresh bread being available from 5pm onwards.
7. If you could put on (or be in) any show/band in the world, which one would it be?
Would love to sing in the band Phoenix. It would help that the lyrics seem to just be an assortment of random mumblings. And I’d be french. Obviously. Which would allow me to objectively be the ugliest man in the room, but still somehow the most attractive to women.
8. Why would someone not come see your show?
Probably because they’re scared of the truth… or (more likely) because they don’t know about it.
Fans of Housos will hate it.
9. In your opinion, what is the worst show/movie you’ve ever seen and why?
Housos. I’m sorry to people that love that show. But after I finished watching it, I felt sad for about a week and I found myself listening to a lot of Joni Mitchell to try and feel ok about everything.
10. Besides your show, what’s your pick for the Fringe/Garden?
Ummm…. I’ve heard Harley Breen and Heath Franklin’s kids show ‘Captain Funpants etc…‘ is pretty amazing!
