Review – Bey Dance Workshop
Do you like Beyoncé? Do you like hanging out with other people who like Beyoncé and busting out some of your best moves? If the answer is yes then you’re going to have an absolutely fantastic time at the Bey Dance Workshop held at Gluttony this Fringe.
The workshop’s fearless leader, Liz Cahalan, will immediately put you at ease as the group nervously assemble on the dance floor. You’ll figure out pretty quickly that it’s not about getting things right, it’s about having fun. Laughing is encouraged, hugs are given if anyone is freaking out too hard at their own un-coordination and fast friends are made.
Be warned though, it’s not always an easy ride being Beyoncé for an hour and a half. You learn a lot of choreography very quickly so you have to have your wits about you. But if you can manage to relax and enjoy the ride you will have a lot of fun! You will also get very sweaty and potentially flick yourself in the eyes with your own pony tail as you attempt the most epic booty drop of all time, as I did, several times.
Ultimately this workshop is about getting out of your comfort zone and channelling some of the epic power that Beyoncé has. It’s about being proud to take up space, loving the way your body moves, and having the guts to walk (or strut) with confidence. When in doubt be bold, be fearless, be Beyoncé.
