Review – The Painted Ladies (Australia)
The Painted Ladies play a mixture of rock ‘n’ roll and sedate ballads with lyrics that are probably just as relevant now as they were thirty odd years ago. This rerecording of Australia’s first black protest album is just as thought provoking as the original by Vic Simms in 1973. Almost every song introduces a new and different instrument keeping the music easy to listen to but entertainingly diverse. The Painted Ladies certainly do justice to an album that remains an important piece of Australian musical history.
