10 Quick Qs – Adrienne Truscott
Adrienne Truscott is one half of The Wau Wau Sisters, and she’s bringing her controversial new show to the Fringe. (It’s about rape!) We ask her the tough questions.
1. Describe your show Twitter-style, 140 character or less!
A One-Lady Rape About Comedy Starring George Carlin, Rick Ross, umpteen cocktails, polkadots, trouble, a duck, her pussy and little else.
2. Do you feel pressured to be funny at family gatherings?
Well, that question presumes I’m invited to family gatherings! But no, I don’t feel pressure. Sometimes my family tries to suggest that not everything is funny.
3. Is this your first Adelaide Fringe? If so, what are you most looking forward to? If not, what is your least favourite thing about the festival?
This isn’t my first or last fringe! Looking forward to riding my bike to the beach and those crazy pretty Adelaide sunsets.
4. What was the most challenging aspect about preparing your show?
Probably getting raped. But choosing which wig color was pretty tough too.
5. If you could be any character in any movie, who and what would it be?
Richard Pryor as himself in Richard Pryor Live In Concert (1979).
6. Who’s your biggest comedic idol?
I suppose Louis C. K. would be the biggest, in terms of size. Doug Stanhope in terms of biggest chip on his shoulder. And Amy Sedaris is a favourite, but she’s a tiny little thing. I love Tig Notaro, too, but she’s also smallish in frame. I don’t imagine anyone has only one idol of anything.
7. Is heckling allowed?
I think the nature of heckling resists permission, doesn’t it? No one has any control over who is going to be in the audience or what kind of mood they’ll be in.
8. What’s your favourite Internet-related guilty indulgence?
Funny cats. Every time. And I think all comics everywhere would give that answer, unapologetically.
9. What is the biggest accolade you’ve received from one of your shows?
Two gentlemen once said, “I hope you take this the right way, but the show was so funny we forgot you were naked.”
10. What other Fringe show are you most excited to catch up with?
I’m pretty keen to see Josh Ladgrove’s show because he’s a lovely and funny person, and there’s no doubt in my mind that all the fuss around his show this year is the work of lazy ignorance, and that he’s probably going to smash it, and sell really well because those numb-nut protestors are giving him oodles of brilliant free press!
You can catch Adrienne Truscott in the Garden of Unearthly Delights from the March 3rd.
