Review – Rom Com Con
Everyone knows romantic comedies are full of unrealistic portrayals of love and relationships, right? Finding themselves despairingly single, British comedians Lizzy Mace and Juliette Burton sought to investigate this very premise by undertaking the ultimate social experiment, and road testing some of the most common rom-com tropes in real life. Interspaced with real life anecdotes from their friends, Lizzy and Juliette share their surprising findings in a humorous and relatable way, taking you through the process of their research with fun quips and even some audience participation.
The intimate stage adds to the casual nature of the show, making the whole experience feel more like a conversation between friends than your typical stand up performance. Lizzy and Juliette are instantly likeable in their frankness and honesty about their experiences, and their banter bounces off each other with amusing results.
If you’re single and frustrated with the dating scene, this is the show for you. If you’re a fan of cheesy rom coms, this is the show for you. If you’re completely disillusioned with love AND cheesy rom coms, you’ll still find something you like in this show. (At least, the friend who I brought along did.)
