Review – Papillon
Grab your rubber ducky, stuff your pants and get hyped up on sugar to see (probably) more than you probably bargained for!

The LEFT ensemble is bursting with energy and passion and the show is jammed packed with amazing routines, yet an edit of the weaker moments could see this show seriously fly.
The whole ensemble are fit and talented, but what really makes this show one of the highlights of the Fringe is their charisma and chemistry – A Simple Space is a strangely life-affirming experience.
It would be a wet slip-up to not make mention of the cast who were truly left showered in approval.
This is the show that will define the upper echelon of this year’s Fringe; miss it at your peril.
Sirens fill the tent, calling a wild-haired angel onto the stage ready to bring on the party of eternity – you know you are in for a good night.
With some thirty plus circus shows on offer at this year’s Fringe, it can be a daunting task choosing which to go and see.
Showcasing precisely synchronised mastery of various props and techniques, the Shandong Acrobatic Troupe elevates the fable to the divine.
An adventurous show, it shifted rapidly between circus tricks and more theatrical moments – and, at times, that venture was a little shaky.
The performance included displays of ribbon, floor tumbling, mat work, tissue and bar – to name a few. On many occasions the audience gasped aloud, initiated by watching a flawless backbend or multiple backflips.
This show is just pure simple fun. Each component is delivered with a shot of comedy that keeps you giggling between gasps.
The show is redeemed in its acrobatics and balancing performances. McDonald’s rope routine is jaw-dropping, and the lack of lycra or sequins in favour of jeans and a business shirt reminds us that these extraordinary feats are also so very human.
A Simple Space strips its circus genre down to the very bones, leaving the audience to focus on the real main attraction – the absolute skill of the performers.
Limbo will tease and tickle you, caress you and spank you. These guys are so hot they make porn look like Play School.
Imagine a bearded and tattooed muscle man supporting his pint-sized partner by her pelvis in a complex hold, which then segues seamlessly and sensuously between flips, holds and drops to the gasping appreciation of the crowd. Hot, right? Just wait until you see it.
