The circus is a wacky place to hide from the even wackier world outside during fringe. On the second night of their month long run at Gluttony’s the Lotus Palace, Papillon had a few minor bumps to iron out on their show.
Strength and balance centric acts such as acrobatics and gymnastics took the fore, whilst human-guneapigs played with the emotions of the audience (well why would you waste animal traps on animals when you have perfectly willing humans around?!)
Papillon is a quirky, animal-free circus that transports audiences to another world. Songstress Mini Andrews is the Alice pushing you through the looking glass, her altered vocals on the cover of Peggy Lee’s ‘Why Don’t You Do Right’ evoke a bygone era and provide the perfect canvas from which to enjoy more masculine feats.
At fringe time audiences are almost inundated with aerial tricks with no safety nets that it can be easy to forget the daring and risk-taking of the amazing performers we are spoilt with. Papillon is a liquorish all-sorts of entertaining skits brought together by a talented cast of performers who can embody both the daredevil and clown. Personality and chemistry are one of the key highlights of this show.
So get ready to grab your rubber ducky, stuff your pants and get hyped up on sugar to see (probably) more than you probably bargained for!
