Review – Frances Ha

Mostly, this is a film about things not happening: characters not hooking up, couples not getting married, spontaneity fizzling out in futility, plans ending in dissolution. It’s a deliberately unambitious film, and therein lies its charm.

The movie has been doing pretty strongly, both home and overseas, getting audiences to laugh and squirm in equal measure. Review – The World’s End

Along the way the history of the five friends is told, some emotional tears are shed, some harsh truths are laid out, and a lot of beer is consumed.

And also they discover that a bunch of robot-y type things filled with blue goo are trying to take over the world.

Review – This Old Man

At first squizz, you could be forgiven for thinking this was a comedy. While three old tipsy sheilas do provide comic relief between the tears of a family tearing itself apart, this is very much a deadset drama that cuts right through the crap.

Michael Douglas delivers a fucking triumphant performance as Walter “Lee” Liberace. Through him we get a leery seducer, a hard-working entertainer… and a dignified superstar at the height of his powers.

History may not remember this as the best of all zombie movies, or even the most definitive…but it has everything a good zombie movie should.

Adelaide Comedy puts shows on every week of the year, and new material night gives comics a chance to hone their craft. You might get as many flat-liners as funnies, but if you’re willing to take a punt you’ll also get some real gems from a solid roster of comedians.
